Plantar Warts

Plantar Warts are the most common viral infection of the skin. A plantar wart is a wart caused by the human papillomavirus occurring on the sole or toes of the foot infects only the superficial layer of skin, producing a thickened callus-like growth that, if located in an areas subjected to pressure, can become quite tender.
Causes of Plantar Warts
The human papilloma virus (HPV) type 1 causes most plantar warts. The virus gains access to the skin through direct contact. People who often use public swimming pools can also be susceptible. HPV only survives when antibodies are not able to destroy them. People with weak immune systems are likely to develop plantar warts.
Symptoms of Plantar Warts

Plantar warts are fairly easy to spot. They are usually brown or gray, spongy, and rough. Most warts have darker pinpoints, which are actually very small capillaries supplying the warts blood.
Treatment of Plantar Warts
Warts on the bottom of the foot feel deep, but they are still within the superficial layer of the skin. Salicylic-acid drops and plasters help remove the thick overlying callus and make the wart feel less like a marble in your shoe. Nonprescription aerosol freezing may be used as well. New technology has enabled doctors to use lasers to destroy the wart. Plantar wart surgery is normally the last resort in removing plantar warts. While the surgery is usually quick and simple and the recovery is typically just as quick and simple.
